Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor

2011/418

Lush writing, descriptive details, and imaginative storytelling make Daughter of Smoke and Bone a must read YA novel. Don't tell me you don't read paranormal or YA (it's very much a crossover book and this is not your typical paranormal!) Seriously, pick this book up now!

Karou has no memory of her past or who she is. All she knows is that she's an art student in Prague who was raised by a ragtag group of chimera. Often Karou is sent off to collect teeth for Brimstone, although she doesn't know what they are for. She only knows she can travel through a doorway and find her way back to Brimstone. But angels have come and are closing the doorways to Brimstone and Karou will soon be trapped. And one of the angels may hold the key to her past.

Yes there's some starcrossed romance, but Laini Taylor handles it in such a way that will leave you guessing and gasping at the surprises that lay ahead. This isn't a cushy paranormal romance, but a richly layered story with a vibrant cast of characters.

I finished this book wanting more from Karou and Akiva and I can't wait to see where Ms. Taylor takes us next. Highly recommended!!
